Antony Steps Back From Man United
While many Manchester United players returned to training today, Monday 11 September, Antony will not be among them as he’s been placed on a leave of absence.
Man United issued a statement via their official website the day before, saying that “it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.”
The statement went on to add that the club condemns acts of abuse and violence, before highlighting: “We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
The 23-year-old winger is currently involved in an active police investigation following allegations of abuse and assault laid by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, as well as two other women.
Antony has denied the allegations, and took to his Instagram stories on the day to reiterate that it was a mutual decision between himself and the club to take the time off and “avoid [being a] distraction to my teammates and [creating] unnecessary controversy for the club.”
“I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth,” the Brazilian added before saying: “I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible.”
